BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) plans to offer BBM protected service to other platforms for an annual fee of $30, company’s India MD Sunil Lalwani told Hindustan Times. The executive added that no date has been decided, but it will happen soon.
Passport and Classic confirmed
The Protected version was ported to the BlackBerry devices featuring balance, but the company has decided to go multi-platform with its service for decent annual fee.
Lalwani did acknowledge that Passport and Classic device will be launched in the next two months. He added that the company has received tremendous inputs from the youth segment on the QWERTY phones.
The Waterloo, Ontario-based company is excited by the rave reviews of its Passport device, which is expected to be launched in September.
BBM Protect in second phase
Jeff Gadway, head of product and brand marketing for BBM, said that the company is already in the second phase of enabling BBM Protected on BlackBerry Balance.
“Today we started phase 2 of the BBM Protected roll out, adding support for BlackBerry devices using Balance technology,” Gadway said in a blog post. BBM Protected will work in BYOD, Balance and COPE environments, as well as, COBO, according to Gadway.
The purpose of BlackBerry balance is to offer a solution for protecting the business sensitive information on a BlackBerry mobile and offer a smooth experience to the users. BBM Protected is the first feature of eBBM Suite for protected enterprise-grade messaging, which was launched recently by the company.
Security update from BlackBerry
The company is extremely serious and focussed on its security features and looks in no mood to compromise on it. In order to make sure that its operating system is secure, BlackBerry recently released security updates for both OS running on its smartphones and its enterprise servers.
BlackBerry released OS version 10.2.1.1925 for Z10, Z30, Q10 and Q5 phone models, and the recent updates will block any sort of anti-security attacks connected to the same wireless network. Only those phones running on Wi-Fi file-sharing service are prone to such attacks. The company said that using a file for password sharing is not prone to such attacks.
