Lindsay Lohan Turns 28, Sues Makers Of GTA V

Lohan just can’t stay out of the news. While that is generally for her alcohol or drug-fueled debauchery or craziness, the actress rarely shies from the spotlight. The “Mean Girls” actress filed suit against Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTWO) claiming the company’s Rockstar Games unit stole her image to create the dizzy Lacey Jonas character without her permission.

Lindsay Lohan Turns 28, Sues Makers Of GTA V

Lacey Jonas or Lindsay Lohan

In “GTA V,” Lacey Jonas is depicted as a famous actress who suffers from an eating disorder and is constantly on the run from paparazzi.

“The portraits of the Plaintiff (Lohan) incorporated her image, likeness, clothing, outfits, Plaintiff’s clothing line products, ensemble in the form of hats, hair style, sunglasses, jean shorts worn by the Plaintiff that were for sale to the public at least two years” before the game was released according to today’s filing.

For an actress that has never shied from removing her clothes, this is a wholly unexpected twist on the “birthday suit.”

“GTA V” was launched in October for the Xbox 360 and PS3 and takes place in the fictional city of Los Santos, a city clearly crafted on Southern California’s  Los Angeles. Perhaps this is what led Lohan to make the claim. Well, that and the fact that it looks and sounds like her as well while the character kind of acts like her as well.

GTA V’s success

“GTA V” is the 15th installment and most recent incarnation in one of the most popular video game franchises of all time. For those that have played the game, they are undoubtedly aware that it is one of the greatest video games ever made and has received the critical praise to comfortably make that claim without a good deal of argument.

Within the first 24 hours of its release the game took in over $800 million in sales and needed two more days to become the fastest entertainment property to reach $1 billion in sales. Within mere weeks after it was released “GTA V” boasted eight records in the Guinness Book of Records.

While Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. could certainly afford to settle with the actress they might claim that because she’s not depicted in the car from her 2005 role in “Herbie: Fully Loaded” that it couldn’t possible be her.
