Consumers who are looking for an iPhone 5 to replace or upgrade their smartphones should check out eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY) to get a great deal.
The online retailer is offering huge discounts on refurbished iPhone 5 Models that are certified by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). During the weekend, approximately half dozen factory restored iPhone 5 models were on sale from $449 to $499, according to AppleInsider.
The price of the Apple certified refurbished iPhone 5 Models are significantly cheaper compared with the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of the devices. For example, the 64GB White iPhone 5 (factory unlocked for GSM) is offered for $499, which is $350 cheaper than the MSRP.
The Apple certified refurbished iPhone 5 models are listed on a store front called “Factory Outlet eBay Store.” eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY) did not directly indicate the involvement of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in the selling the devices with huge discounts.
eBay shows signs of partnership with Apple
In the past, Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) had an agreement with eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY) to sell refurbished iPads. There are signs that the two companies are again working together to sell Apple certified iPhone 5 models.
One the sign worth mentioning is the fact that the Apple certified iPhone 5S on sale is promoted as “exclusive” to the Factory Outlet eBay Store. The device is offered with a one-year full warranty, completely restored to like-new conditions, complete burn-in testing, repackaged with manual and charger. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) also performed the final quality inspection on the device.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) sold refurbished iPads with $100 discount through its Apple Certified Refurbished Products Store on eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY) instead of selling the devices to its own online store on March last year.
It was a 3-month-pilot program, and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) decided not renew that initiative. The iPhone and iPad maker completely removed that storefront on eBay prior to the launching of its new iPads in 2013.
