Wellscale Is A Smart Food Scale For Your iPhone And Android

Updated on

Yesterday we talked about Ringly, a smart ring that connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth LE and alerts users via flashing lights and vibration. Today we’re going to introduce you to a similar device known as WellScale; a portable smart scale that connects to a smartphone to provide information about the nutritional value of food.

Wellscale allows you to see the exact nutritional content of the food

The scale has a Bluetooth 4.0 chip which allows it to communicate via Android or iOS smartphones. Simply put the food on the scale, enter the food type into the app and you’ll be able to see the exact nutritional content of the food. This is very useful for those who want to track their calories or sugar levels.

Hugo Freire, a developer at WellScale, says, “There are currently no scales on the market that consumers can take to restaurants, bars, or parties. WellScale gives consumers the assurance of knowing exactly what they’re eating, no matter the situation.”

Wellscale weighs only 70 grams and has a diameter of 83 mm, which means it is very easy to carry with you wherever you go. You can take it to your friend’s home or even to restaurants by carrying it in your pocket.

Feedback in real time about what to and what not to eat

The companion app also gives feedback in real time about what to eat and what not to eat. For example, the app will advise you to stop eating foods with sugar if you’re been eating too much in your last few meals. The scale comes with a in-built USDA database with over 8000 foods.

The Wellscale app is compatible with iPhone 4S running on iOS 7 or above. Android users will need to have a device running Android 4.3 and above.

Wellscale is a project on Indiegogo and it’s looking to raise $37,000 with the help of crowd-funding. For those looking to pre-order, it can be bought for a price of $65 with an early bird discount.
