“Nokia by Microsoft” branding may arrive in the recent future, according to distinguished tipster @evleaks. According to the tipster, the licensing deal between both the companies would produce a new branding as the companies are on the verge of concluding their dialogues.
Surface tablets to undergo rebranding?
However, smartphones may not be the only products to undergo branding modification. Additionally, the company would also drop its Surface moniker, claims the tipster. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will assign Lumia One to its tablet following the failed efforts made by the software giant to sell its Surface One tablet.
Combining the Surface and Lumia brands would go well with the company’s “One Microsoft” messaging and positioning. Additionally, the company is also planning to launch a single Window SKU that would be compatible with both phones and touch tablets.
Microsoft failed to sell its Surface brands, whereas Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) has positioned its featured phones and smartphone impressively in the market. Nokia Lumia surged to popularity within two years of its launch.
Nokia branding not easy for Microsoft
As of now, both the companies have not announced anything officially over this. Microsoft-Nokia entered into a deal two months back, which was worth €5.44 billion. Previously, @evleaks leaked an internal document, which noted that Microsoft is planning to remove Nokia branding from every product 18 months after the deal through December 31, 2015 for Nokia X Android phones and 10 years for Asha mobile phones.
Earlier, an internal leaked document, also, revealed that Nokia care centers and retail stores will get new names, but the exact time of this rebranding is not known. “We are carefully planning how, when and where to introduce the Microsoft brand, over a significant period of time,” it read.
The most popular Nokia original theme Ringtone and “Connecting People” byline along with holding hands is, also, under consideration, however nothing is clear as yet. Within the document it has been mentioned that Microsoft does not holds the right to these assets under the agreement and they vest with Nokia Oyj. All Nokia phones will have Nokia tune as default tone along with the logo.
The employees, who received this document, have been notified to comply by changing their Twitter handle or profile referring to Nokia because they are now the employees at Microsoft. Also, the employees will have to update their information on Facebook and LinkedIn.
