Lara Croft Will Return For Holiday 2015

Due in 2015, the game’s CG trailer showed a hooded Lara Croft (once again voiced by Camilla Luddington) in therapy following the events of the last chapter it stands to reason. The announcement by Crystal Dynamics was made today and the trailer shown during Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s E3 Press Conference today.

What is “Holiday 2015?”

“In the next chapter of her journey, Lara must use her survival skills and wits, learn to trust new friends, and ultimately accept her destiny as the Tomb Raider,” Microsoft said. “Featuring epic, high-octane action moments, Rise of the Tomb Raider will take gamers to multiple locations around the world filled with exploration spaces that are some of the most beautifully hostile places on earth. In addition, after hearing the cry from fans loud and clear, the game will put the tombs back into “Tomb Raider” all in the franchise’s gritty Survival-Action style.”

Fans of the franchise which includes video games, comic books, novels, theme park rides, and (most importantly) Angelina Jolie in short shorts have been enjoying archaeologist Lara Croft or Lady Croft since 1996.

The first six iterations were developed by Core Design before handing the torch (good for tomb raiding) to Crystal Dynamics. It’s the latter company that has developed the last five versions and with the newly announced game will pull even with Core Design.

The iconic Lara Croft

In 2006, Lara Croft was inducted into both the “Walk of Game” and was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the “The Most Successful Human Virtual Game Heroine.

The series in its entirety has sold over 40 million copies and is one of the best selling video game franchises. By the looks of the preview, millions more will be sold after the series was rebooted in 2013.
