How To Get Android L Heads Up Notifications

Updated on

We previously informed our readers about how to get their hands on the Android L Developer Preview, but unfortunately the preview is only limited to Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 devices. However, for all you non-Nexus users eager to try out some of the features of the Android L operating system such as the Heads up notification feature, then the good news is that it is now possible to bring those features to other Android devices, and you don’t even need to be running Android L.

Heads up notifications on any Android device

The big news we’re talking about here is a brand new app available in the Google Play Store named “Heads Up! – notifications” from Woodblock Without Co. The developer first announced this app on the XDA Developer Forum, where it can be downloaded for free, a few days ago. As you might have guessed, this app brings the newly announced Heads Up notifications feature of Android L to any Android smartphone or tablet running on Android v4.3+. With this app, you can be sure you won’t ever miss another important notification.

There’s a whitelist section where you can add selected apps to receive heads up notifications from. You can also filter out those apps that constantly send notifications, for example, instant messaging and media apps. If you want, you can also set the heads-up notifications to display  only in fullscreen mode.

This great new app will at least give you a taste of the new features that Android L brings to the table. The app is available for only one dollar from the Google Play Store, or you can download it for free from the XDA Forums. Here’s a promotional video describing the app.
