How To Bring Facebook Chat Heads To Chrome

Updated on

If you’ve used the Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) app on your smartphone or tablet, then you know about its chat head notification system that pops up your friends’ heads in bubbles over any app whenever you receive a new message on Facebook. The Facebook chat heads system really works great and because of this, you won’t have to switch to a separate screen or app to view or reply the message.

Right now, Facebook chat heads are only available on Android and iOS platforms, and they are not available on desktop systems. Fortunately, there’s something that you can do to bring the chat heads to your desktop, thanks to a useful third-party offering.

Add Facebook Chat Heads to Chrome

Check out Faces.im, a Google Chrome extension that aims to bring the popup chat head to your Chrome browser, much like in the mobile app. The popup displays your friend’s profile picture, name and a part of the message. There’s also a small x button, which allows you to close the chat head popup box.

But unlike the mobile app, when you click on this chat head, it doesn’t open any floating window where you can reply to the message; instead, it opens a new separate window to do this. From there, on the right side, there’s also an option to disable chat bubbles if you wish to.

Whenever a message arrives, it automatically sticks itself to the right side of the browser. You can also click and drag it. You can download the Facebook chat heads extension for free from the Chrome Web Store. Just click on the link below and then you’ll be ready to install it.
