David Einhorn, founder and manager of Greenlight Capital, is playing in the Big One for One Drop poker tournament that began this last weekend on behalf of the Robin Hood Foundation. Einhorn is vice chairman of the Robin Hood Foundation.
Big One for One Drop poker tournament
The Big One for One Drop is a $1,000,000 buy-in poker tournament. This is the second the Big One for One Drop tournament, as Antonio Esfandiari took home $18,346,673, the largest single prize in tournament poker history, at the inaugural tournament in June of 2012. The 11% cut of the entry fees also raised more than $5,500,000 for the nonprofit One Drop.
This year’s high roller poker tournament is hosted by the World Series of Poker to benefit One Drop and is expected to raise even more funds for the nonprofit organization dedicated to provided safe access to water for all. The first place prize is a new record $20 million plus, and this year’s tourney will raise more than $6 million for One Drop.
Many of the world’s most well-known poker professionals, philanthropists, business people and satellite qualifiers are participating in this three-day tournament that began June 29, 2014. The mega poker tourney lasts three days and features several hours of national television coverage.
The Big One for One Drop is an officially-sanctioned WSOP bracelet event, and the winner will receive a one of a kind platinum bracelet designed by famous watchmaker Richard Mille.
Einhorn known for poker skills
David Einhorn is can do more than just pick stocks. Einhorn is a serious poker player who regularly participates in large poker events for charity. In fact, Einhorn finished in third place in this same WSOP-sanctioned One Drop event in 2012 (and donated his $5 million plus winnings to charity).
Einhorn began playing poker in 2004 and has made it into the money in a number of major poker tournaments since he first participated in the World Series of Poker in 2006.
UPDATE:
David Einhorn was the first player knocked out of the Big One for One Drop 2014, after his three jacks lost to a straight drawn out on the river. He was knocked out by professional poker player Sam Trickett.
