It seems like Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is increasingly finding the need to address the needs of the lower-end device market. First the company launched the “less expensive” iPhone 5C last year. Now today on the company’s website, there’s a new iMac for sale. It starts out at $1,099, which is $200 cheaper than it was yesterday.

New less expensive iMac options

There are configurations to set in determining the price of your iMac, of course. The cheapest option features a 1.4 GHz dual-core i5 processor, a 500-gig hard drive, 8 GB of memory and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s HD Graphics 5000 card. It has a 21.5-inch display as well.

Those who want a bit more out of their iMac can opt up for a Fusion or 1TB HDD drive or add 256 GB of SSD flash storage. After that, the price goes up by $200 to include a quad-core processor and Iris Pro graphics card from Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), 1 TB drive, and 16 GB of RAM. Buyers can also add other upgrades like having Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Logic Pro X or Final Cut Pro X software pre-installed on the computer.

iMac options leaked early

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may have decided to pull the trigger on the cheaper iMac today after a leaked photo that appeared on the French website Macplus. The photo showed a label listing the specs that were printed on the box of an iMac that is going on sale in France.

The label shows the same specs as the new least expensive iMac on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s website.

Apple also cut MacBook Air

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) also slashed the price of its least expensive MacBook Air laptops recently. The 11-inch laptop now is priced at around $899, trimming $100 off the price. Apple also added a better chip to the computer, making it faster with a a 1.4 GHz Core i5 chip. The previous chip in that laptop was a 1.3 GHz process.
