Nokia Lumia 636 Passes Chinese Authorities’ TD-LTE Tests

Updated on

Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s Lumia 636 has passed certifying procedures to receive approval from the Ministry of Industry China. It is the LTE version of the Lumia 635 and has the RM-1010 model name, says a report from Weibo (via wmpoweruser). The Lumia 636 will be the first Nokia smartphone in China that supports TD-LTE.

Nokia Lumia 638 might be launched soon

In one of the pictures on the Weibo post, the back cover of the packaging for the phone also shows that the Lumia 638 might be launched soon. There is just one SIM slot in the Lumia 636, and it’s quite possible that the Lumia 638 will have dual SIM slots with 1 GB of RAM. However, nothing has been confirmed as yet.

China Mobile Ltd. (ADR) (NYSE:CHL) (HKG:0941) has a huge customer base of more than 700 million subscribers, which makes it the largest mobile carrier in the world. Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) is thus on the right path to grab a share of the big pie, and the Lumia 636 could help with that.

In the beginning of April, Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) launched the Lumia 635 and the Lumia 630, both of which have QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM)’s Snapdragon 400 SoC and 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of built-in memory, and microSD card slot. Both use the same 4.5″ FWVGA CleraBlack IPS LCD display with Gorilla Glass 3.

Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s Lumia 630 sports a digital television tuner feature, which would be helpful with just a few days before the FIFA World Cup. The Lumia 630 is a dual-SIM phone launched at the Build conference 2014 in April. Both the Lumia 635 and the Lumia 630 are budget phones. The Lumia 630 has a 4.5-inch screen, Corning Gorilla Glass, a quad-core Snapdragon processor, and SensorCore, which track users’ movements without juicing out the battery. This feature can be used with fitness tracking apps.

The Lumia 630 is the first commercially available phone running Windows 8.1, which includes the voice assistant Cortana. The feature is much like Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Siri and Google Now. Additionally, it has the Action Center, through which notifications and functions can be managed in a better way.

Nokia enjoys institutional support

Separately, according to a recent report, institutional ownership in Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) is around 25%, which demonstrates that there’s substantial support for the company in its transformation from a low-performing smartphone company to an infrastructure, digital mapping and intellectual property company.
