Nokia Introduces Lumia 630 With Digital TV Tuner

Updated on

Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) recently introduced the Lumia 630 smartphone with digital tv tuner just before before the upcoming FIFA World Cup. The phone will be exclusive to Brazil.

Highlights for the special version of Nokia Lumia 630

The new smartphone will be based on a dual-SIM model. It will also feature a built-in television receiver. The phone was initially launched during the Build 2014 conference in April. The original version of this phone, along with the Lumia 635, was designed for budget conscious shoppers. The 630 features a ClearBlack 4.5 inch LCD screen, Corning Gorilla Glass, quad-core Snapdragon processor, and SensorCore. The latter is a unique feature that allows devices to monitor user movement without draining battery energy. This feature can also be used with fitness-tracking apps.

The thing that sets this phone apart from others is the distinction as the first commercially available smartphone that runs on Windows 8.1. The new operating system includes voice-assistant Cortana, which is very similar to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Siri and Google Now. It also features Action Center, which makes for better management of notifications and functions.

The device’s tie-in with FIFA

Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s recent blog post elaborated on why the Lumia 630 with digital tv tuner is a must-have for the upcoming FIFA games. The post explained, “Unless you’ve had your head buried in the sand, you’ll know that, next month, Brazil will host the world’s biggest soccer competition. In response to this, and the nation’s fervent following of the sport, a Brazil-only version of the Nokia Lumia 630 Dual SIM with a Digital TV (DTV) signal receiver is being launched. Perfect for locals cheering on the ‘Canarinho’ and anyone lucky enough to be traveling to the country to support their national team.”

When it comes to smartphone sales, Nokia is no Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) or Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:0059935). Although the tech company has failed to keep up with its rivals in global sales, Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) isn’t giving up completely.
