Evleaks: Nexus 6 To Be Dropped In Favor Of Android Silver

Updated on

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL)  is rumored to be dumping its Nexus program, and instead, launching a new Android Silver program. These rumors have been surfacing for quite a long time and now even the popular and credible leaker Evleaks is supporting this rumor on Twitter. In his tweet, he says “There is no Nexus 6. Farewell, Nexus.” Evleaks has a long history of obtaining credible information, and most of his leaks are indeed true.

Evleaks supports claim of Google dumping Nexus brand

According to Evleaks, Google’s new Android Silver program is said to be replacing the Nexus program. The rumors highlight that the Silver program is some kind of Google Play Edition program, but Google will supply a set of rules to manufacturers to manufacture Android Silver devices. Of course, you can also expect timely Android updates and the stock Android experience, just like the Nexus program.

So now you would be wondering when will we expect Android Silver to debut? According to previous rumors, it will debut next year, but since Nexus devices are released every year, we don’t expect Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) to skip a complete year. This means we could, in fact, see the debut of Android Silver later this year, which seems to be the more likely case.

Google’s Nexus smartphones and tablets are popular for three main reasons: timely Android updates, the pure Google experience with no UI on top and an affordable price. These points have made Nexus a reasonably popular device, and we just hope that Android Silver will also be able to enjoy the same success.

Some people may consider it bad news that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is dumping the Nexus brand because they have started to fall in love with their devices. Will the new Silver program make things better or worse? We’ll just have to wait and see.
