Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 6 is the most awaited phone of the year and series of reports have been released over its supposed features, specifications, price and launch date over the past year. Going by past trends, Apple has launched its iPhones between June and October, usually September.
iPhone 6 in September, October or June
The iPhone first generation was launched in June 2007, iPhone 3G in July 2008, iPhone 3GS was rolled over in June 2009, iPhone 4 in June 2010, iPhone 4S in October 2011, iPhone 5 in September 2012 and the iPhone5S/5C was launched in September 2013.
These dates suggest that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) might release the iPhone 6 somewhere in September/October 2014, but recent reports indicate that the next generation iPhone could launch as early as June this year. One such claim was made by Chinese analyst Sun Chyand Xu and reported by GSMArena. The highly awaited iPhone 6 might launch in June as Apple will host WWDC from June 10-14. However, WWDC generally revolves around software launches rather than a hardware debut.
That said, a few reports also claim that the iPhone 6 may not be the next hardware from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), and the company may come up with an iPhone phablet-smartphone/tablet hybrid before releasing the next normal-sized phone.
Other rumored features
A report from Forbes citing Timothy Acuri, the managing director of Cowen and Company, says that Apple will launch a 4.8 inch iPhone 6 and retain its current 1136×640 pixel resolution. Various other reports mention a 4.7-5 and 5.5 inch screen iPhone 6. Also, there are speculations that there might be two variants of the iPhone 6 with different screen sizes.
On the price front, the iPhone 6 is expected to be in line with the price of the iPhone 5S, which suggests that it would sell somewhere around £549. One of the most obvious specifications in the iPhone 6 would be iOS 8 platform pre-installed. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will supposedly launch its latest iOS during the WWDC.
There are strong possibilities that the iPhone 6 will have NFC chip and 128 GB storage capacity after 64 GB in iPhone 5S. Other rumored specifications are sapphire screen, Heart rate Ear pods, Expandable storage, higher megapixel camera, wireless charging, A8 processor and flexible screen.
