Apple’s deal with Beats
In other Apple-related news, there’s the company’s much talked about acquisition of Beats. A recent source reports the buy-out is under way, although it was apparently an on again, off again situation. The unnamed source explained, “They want Jimmy and they want Dre. He’s got fashion and culture completely locked up.”
The acquisition is rumored to be a $3.2 billion deal. Beats, a music company owned by the legendary hip-hop icon Dr. Dre and music mogul Jimmy Iovine, is valued at $1 billion. This is after HTC sold the company back to the owners last year. Beats first formed in 2008 to sell high-quality studio headphones. Overall, reviews for the hardware are mixed, but the company still has a high value for “record-label in a box”.
This will likely be a huge win for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), especially since there were rumors the company’s rival Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) wanted to acquire Beats earlier this year. That deal reportedly fell through.
