Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) last week announced an update to Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1. But the company is planning to bring another major update sometime soon. Rumors suggest that the new desktop operating system Windows 9 will be announced in April 2015.
Windows Phone 8.2 to be announced between October-December
However, a Reddit user, who claims to be a 15-year Microsoft veteran, has leaked features of Windows Phone 8.2, or whatever the marketing team names the next update. The anonymous employee works inside the Redmond-based company’s operating system group. He has deleted his Reddit account, indicating that he might get into hot water over leaking the features.
The Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) employee said that Windows Phone 8.2 is currently under development, and will likely be announced in the next 8-10 months. Moreover, the software giant will speed up the software update cycle to 6-8 months. The Reddit thread described how the Windows Phone 8.2 will have a special password that users can pass on to their close ones. It will allow them to contact you through text messages even when your smartphone is on Do Not Disturb mode.
Next Windows Phone update to have other video calling options as well
Skype has been the default video calling option on the current Windows Phone OS. But the Reddit user said the Windows Phone 8.2 will support many such services. The music apps will be able to read downloaded music, create playlists, and include Xbox Music in the same playlist seamlessly. The alleged Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) employee said that Xbox One will add music and background talks in the next six months.
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) app isn’t present in Message hub with Windows 8.1. He revealed that a new Facebook app is being developed, and Facebook integration will be removed from the default Message hub with Windows Phone 8.2. The programmer said that the future version of Windows Phone will also have a file manager app.
The alleged Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) employee said that the company is working hard to fix problems in its Bing search engine to compete with Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG).
