How To Use Add-Ons In Google Drive’s Docs And Sheets

Updated on

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has introduced add-ons for its Docs and Sheets service in March, and now this feature has been fully rolled out for everyone. This new marketplace for add-ons is from Google’s developer partners and will bring even more features to your documents and spreadsheets inside of Google Drive. So here’s how you can get started with the new add-ons feature of Google Docs and Sheets.

Using add-ons in Google Drive, Documents and Spreadsheets

Launch Google Documents or Spreadsheets and you’ll be able to find a new add-ons menu. Click on Add-ons and then on “Get add-ons.”

A new pop-up window will open which will bring many different add-ons that you can choose from. Find the one that you’re going to use and click on the Free button to install it.

A new window will open that will request for your permission to install the add-on. Click on the blue Accept button. Once you do this, you can now access the same add-on from the Add-ons menu.

For example, I installed open clipart addon, which I can now access from Add-ons > openclipart. To insert a clipart, click on Search clipart and then you’ll be able to see a new sidebar in the right side from where you can search for cliparts, or insert the popular ones for free. To insert a clipart, simply click on it.

How to remove an add-on

If you don’t need the functionality of the add-on, then you can remove it. To do this, go to the Add-on menu and click on Manage add-ons.
