Twitter New Profile Pages Impressive, But Resemble Facebook

Updated on

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) will visually transform itself for a new look with its redesigned profile page, which was available only for a few users initially. Now, the micro blogging company will roll out the changes for its full user base. Users will continue using Twitter in the same way, but there will be some changes on the page that will give a different look to the profile.

Twitter users can now have a bigger image

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) users can put their header photo similar to the platforms like Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Google+. Also, the new design lets a user add a bigger image of theirs. A photo with dimension 1,500×500 pixels will be suitable for the photo space, and ones which are smaller will stretch only to look weird and unfit. Profile photos can be of higher resolution of around 400×400 pixels.

Instead of a background image, Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) users will have to choose a different snap, which can be done by clicking settings and then Profile. However, the background image set by the users will appear in “Home”, “Notifications” or “Discover.” Background images will be visible when a user sees individual tweets.

More options with tweets

When Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) rolls out the new profile design, some of the tweets will have larger text than others. When this happens, it’s Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR)’s way of telling you that it’s one of your “best tweets”—a tweet that had a high level of engagement (retweets, responses or favorites).

If a user wants to highlight any specific tweet, he or she can pin the tweet on the top of their profile timeline. In order to attach the Tweet, users can select a tweet from the profile page and click on the three dot icon below the statement. Upon clicking, a few options will appear like share via email, embed tweet, and pin to your profile page. User can select the desired option from the list.

Users can also filter the tweets on their page as well as anyone else’s page. Although the option existed in Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR), it has become quicker and simpler.

Much like Facebook

Though the changes are surely impressive, the redesigned Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) page is closely similar to Facebook’s profile pages with user’s photos and friends placed on the lower left. The only major difference between the two is that, on Twitter’s user profiles, photos are placed below followers while, in Facebook, it is exactly the opposite. So, it will be very interesting to see the feedback of users on the new look especially from those that not big fans of Facebook.
