Google has already announced Android Wear, an operating system for wearable devices like smartwatches. With the announcement, Motorola and LG were announced as its first-ever partners that will be bringing out smartwatches based on Android Wear. LG has now come forward and detailed the key features of this smartwatch on its website.
LG G watch will be ‘always on’
One of the key features of the LG G watch is that it will be ‘always on,’ This means that it will have a display that will be always turned on, and the smartwatch will always listen to your voice commands. Owners of this watch will simply need to say “OK Google” followed by the command and this watch will complete the corresponding action. However, it would be interesting to see how this smartwatch performs in the battery department because it remains always on.
Motorola has also announced the Moto 360 smartwatch, and this LG G watch will be directly competing with it as both will be powered by Android Wear.
Like other watches, this LG G watch is also water resistant. This doesn’t mean that it can be submerged in water for a prolonged period, but it will handle showers and rain. The watch is also dust-resistant.
Apart from the mysterious “always on” display claims, LG’s site shows color variants, stealth black and Champagne Gold. The 360-degree view also shows off the usage of pogo pins, just like Samsung’s Gear smartwatch.
The LG G watch is said to be released in the second quarter of 2014. For now, there are no other technical details known, nor it is known for how long its battery will last. Let’s wait and see how well this smartwatch powered by Android Wear performs, and how well it competes with other smartwatches like the Pebble.
