Facebook Messenger For Android Now Lets You Pin Chats To Homescreen

Updated on

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is not in a mood to sit on its thumbs even after acquiring WhatsApp, as it seems that the social network has some big plans for its Facebook Messenger app for Android. The Android version of Facebook Messenger has just been updated to version 4.0, which adds some new features to the messenger.

This change is in line with last week’s iOS update, where you get the ability to create groups of friends from the new “Groups” tab. Once a group is created, you can start bombarding all of your friends at once, much like WhatsApp. You can pin existing group discussions or start a new group. When creating a group discussion, you’ll need to add your friends to it, a picture and also a name for this group. Once you’ve done this, you can start chatting right away. If a group becomes too noisy, then fortunately you have the option to mute conversations for an hour, a night or until you turn it on.

Pin Facebook chats to Homescreen on Android

Now, unlike iOS, Android version of Facebook Messenger allows you to add a shortcut to the homescreen for any group or conversation. This is much like a floating chat head, which eliminates the need to open the app and then get access to chats. This method is more convenient, provided you don’t mind adding it to the homescreen.

These days it is very much important for a company like Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) to focus on group chats, which many users demand. This new addition will surely make Facebook retain some users, as this feature has been available on other messaging apps for a long time.
