Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is one of the most sought-after companies in the tech industry worldwide, seemingly every IT professional would wish to have that name on his or her resume. But some former professionals of the company are not all satisfied. A report from Business Insider has complied all such complaints from the former Apple employees.
Secretive atmosphere to blame
One employee, Robert Bowdidge tells Quora that he could not tell anything to his wife, who works at IBM. According to Bowdidge, his wife knew he was working on something different, and asked if she could accompany him on his tour of Manchester UK for projects. He had to refuse because the team leader would not want someone from IBM coming along with the Apple team and learning the strategies and secrets of the company.
Another story comes from Kim Scheinberg about her husband, JK, who works with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and designed an Intel version of Mac OSX powering the PC. She said that Bertrand Serlet, SVP asked her husband to keep this low profile so that no one came to know about it, and the home office was to be reconfigured with the Apple security standards.
“JK points out to Bertrand that I know about the project. In fact, not only do I know about it, I am the person who named it.”
According to Scheinberg, the SVP wanted her to forget everything about the project and the product made by her husband until it was publicly announced.
One-sided communications at Apple
Another anonymous employee said that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has a culture of utter secrecy and more extreme politics and marketing influenced decision making. The employee said that literally everything is decided by the marketing team at Apple and 2 reviewers in east coast newspapers.
“I was shocked and flabbergasted at the role these reviewers had at Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). As an engineer, I was told to tend to feature requests that were made by Mossberg and party. Scary, and makes me want to sell all my Apple stock,” the employee said.
Owen Yamuachi, who was proud to be a part of the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Infinite Lop Campus in Cupertino as an intern, has also shared his experiences. Yamuachi said that his team was located in the faraway building of Vallco Parkway, which is a few miles away from the main campus of Infinite Loop. Yamuachi said that he was away from other interns and there was no cafe in his building.
The architecture of the building was also strange, with dark hallways and high ceilings along with private offices for everyone. These offices made him feel lonely. He said that the organization is a pressure cooker and all communication is one-sided.
