3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD) has acquired Medical Modeling Inc, a leading company in the field of personalized surgical treatments and patient specific medical devices. The acquisition would help 3D Systems in its effort to become the biggest player in personalized 3D printed medical devices.

3D Systems to integrate its healthcare activities

Avi Reichental, 3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD) President and CEO said that the company’s growing healthcare business combined with the expertise of the Medical Modeling will help to create “largest 3D printing based personalized surgery and patient specific medical device service capabilities available today.”

Along with the acquisition, 3D Systems also stated that it will streamline all its healthcare activities into a single unit headed by Medical Modelling President Andy Christensen, who is now been named as 3D Systems’ Vice President, Personalized Surgery and Medical Devices.

Over the past few years, 3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD) has made numerous acquisitions with the latest one being Digital Playspace, which would enable the company to produce 3D printed toys. 3D Systems is also making its presence felt in the 3D printed food market with its ChefJet Food 3D printer, and an alliance with Hershey.

Medical Modelling a leading name in VSP

Medical Modeling is a Golden, Colorado-based company, which is breaking new ground in the arena of 3D printing-centric personalized surgery and patient specific medical device solutions with an FDA-cleared manufacturing processes and global expertise. The company is a leading player in the field of virtual surgical planning and clinical transfer tools through 3D modelling and printing, which is a determining factor in reconstructive surgery.

Medical Modelling provides the service of Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP), an approach to personalize service that includes expertise in medical imaging, surgical simulation and additive manufacturing.
