Samsung Galaxy S4: How To Use It As A Flashlight

Updated on

If you’ve got a Samsung Galaxy S4, then it comes with an impressive 13 megapixel camera, and a bright LED flash. We might forget to carry a flashlight but we never forget to carry our smartphones wherever we go. In such a case, wouldn’t it be great to use the LED flash of your SGS4 as a flashlight? That’s exactly what we’re going to do in this quick guide.

Using the LED flash as a flashlight is common these days, but how to do this depends on the device you’re using. Let’s take a look at how to use your Samsung Galaxy S4 as a flashlight.

Enable the flashlight on Galaxy S4

There are two ways to use flashlight on Galaxy S4. There’s an in-built widget which you can use to enable the flashlight, and there’s also a third-party app.

Method 1: Add a widget to your homescreen
Widgets, as we know, add a quick shortcut to instantly launch any app or service. Head over to the apps tray by tapping the apps icon from the bottom of the screen, and then head over to the Widgets tab from the top of the screen.

Swipe left or right until you find the Assistive Light widget. Tap and hold this widget for a moment and then drag the widget to the homescreen where you wish to place it.

Tap on the Assistive Light widget to enable the camera LED flash as a flashlight. This is an official widget from Samsung, which means that you don’t need to install any third-party app for this functionality.

Method 2: Using a third-party flashlight app
There are plethora of flashlight apps that you can install from the Google Play Store with different functionality. Some of them come with features like a timer to automatically power off the flashlight, blinking function, diverse screen lights, widgets and more.

Amongst all these flashlight apps, if you don’t want to get confused, then try out Tiny Flashlight + LED app which you can download from here. This app also offers a widget which you can add to your homescreen, if you don’t want to use the app.

It’s worth noting that whichever method you use to enable flashlight, it will drain your battery faster. That’s why you should use this cool feature only when required.
