How To Pin A Website To The Windows 8 Start Screen

Updated on

If you’re on Windows 8, then you can pin websites to the Start Screen easily, and it has its advantages. This Start Screen is the first screen that you’re greeted with (provided you’ve not changed the default setting), and that’s why instead of launching Internet Explorer and then visiting your Favorites section, you can simply click or tap on this shortcut from the Start Screen to visit your site in a jiffy.

This small trick can save you time, and is a more convenient way to quickly launch websites. So without further ado, let’s learn how to do this.

How to pin a website on Start Screen of Windows 8

Launch Internet Explorer and visit the website that you want to pin to the Start Screen.

Once you’ve opened the website, click on the gear icon from the top-right side of the screen, which is also known as Tools menu.

From this drop-down menu, click on “Add site to Start Screen.”

You’ll now be able to see a dialog box, where you can edit only the “From” field. Click on the Add button to create a Start Screen shortcut for this website.

You should now be able to see a new tile on the Start Screen. To remove it, right-click on it and then select Unpin from Start from the bottom of the screen.

If you’re using Internet Explorer in Windows 8 mode, then right-click anywhere within the browser and then click on Pin to Start. Give a name to this shortcut and click on Pin to Start. It’s worth noting that you can’t edit the name when you’re pinning a website from desktop mode, while you can edit the name when pinning from Windows 8 mode.

So that’s how you can pin a website to your Start Screen. Like other tiles, any website that you pin will automatically sync between multiple PCs, provided you’ve logged-in using the same Microsoft account.
