Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s main supplier Foxconn Technology Co., Ltd. (TPE:2354) is prepping for a big expansion. The company reportedly plans to hire 15,000 more employees in an effort to go beyond just supplying parts for electronic gadgets.
Foxconn prepares for hiring spree
According to a recent report from Wall Street Journal, Foxconn (sometimes referred to as Hon Hai) wants to hire more people in the following fields: engineering, telecommunications, e-commerce, automation, biotechnology, hardware development, and software. The company has been around for forty years and is currently facing a transformation challenge. Currently, the company has about 46,000 employees in Taiwan and over a million employees in China. Foxconn Technology Co., Ltd. (TPE:2354) is the main manufacturer for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) gadgets such as iPhones and iPads. The manufacturing company hopes to get more growth momentum to push into telecom services and software development. The company also released their own brand of mobile accessories.
Ambitious plans ahead
It’s reported that the new hires will help pave the way for the upcoming high-speed fourth generation mobile services in Taiwan. Late last year, Foxconn Technology Co., Ltd. (TPE:2354) obtained the license to use 4G. WSJ explained, “Analysts said Hon Hai’s telecom operation in Taiwan is just a testing ground for its telecom equipment business. The company’s ultimate goal is to sell high-value telecom equipment and compete with major vendors such as Sweden-based Ericsson and China’s Huawei, they said. To attract new graduates and global talent, Hon Hai said it will provide healthcare services and festival gifts to its employees. The company can also offer a global platform for its employees as it has operations in the U.S., Indonesia, Japan and China.”
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s manufacturer has been facing some troubles in China. Such challenges include the rise of labor costs and disputes within the workplace. The tech manufacturer also hopes to make Indonesia the main site for production within the next few years.
