The unveiling of the latest and much-awaited Samsung Galaxy handset is just over a week away now, with Samsung intending to reveal the device to the public in Barcelona at the World Mobile Congress. This prestigious event begins on February 24, so it won’t be too much longer to wait for some really concrete news about the Samsung Galaxy S5, which is mooted to be a real rival to the Apple iPhone’s smartphone supremacy in 2014.
We have heard all manner of leaks and rumors with relation to this device over the last few weeks and months, with anticipation heightening of the release of this premium smartphone. Well, the latest preview of this device has just hit the public domain, and it provides a tantalizing insight into what the Galaxy S5 look like when it is finally released.
Samsung Galaxy S5 new concept images unveiled
While we have not previously seen any leaked images of what the Galaxy S5 may look like, Sam Mobile has recently disclosed a visual rendition which has been created by Move Player. This is particularly significant as the Korean website is close to Samsung both geographically and personally, and previous details provided by the site have proved to be extremely accurate.
According to this visual representation of what we can expect the Galaxy S5 to look like, the device will be characterized with rather square corners which are in contrast to the rounded design used for previous Galaxy mobiles. In accordance with previous rumors, the device also features the new TouchWiz user interface which has been proposed in recent days, and a slimmer bezel separating the screen from the edge of the handset. This would seem to be necessary given the larger display size which is widely expected to feature in the Galaxy S5.
Samsung acknowledges Galaxy shake-up
This would also be consistent with comments made by Samsung previously regarding the design of the Galaxy S5. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) has stated in previous interviews that it felt the design of the device had held the Galaxy S4 back to some extent, despite its significant success, and that the S5 would be built around an entirely new design. Samsung has openly acknowledged criticism of the Galaxy S4, particularly the fact that it too strongly resembled the Galaxy S3, and will be keen to put that right with its latest release.
Aside from the physical changes in the device, Samsung is also keen to give fans of the Galaxy range a strong reason to upgrade, and the company is thus packing all the spec that it possibly can into its latest flagship smartphone. Thus, in terms of upgrades, Galaxy fans can expect a faster device this time round with more processing power, and improved privacy features. There have been numerous credible leaks with regard to specifications, so we already have some idea of not only what the Galaxy S5 will look like, but also what its capabilities will be.
Powerful spec list
Rumors have already indicated that Samsung will significantly upgrade the camera for the Galaxy S5, including a 16-megapixel snapper in the handset. Speculation has centered around whether or not Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) intends to embrace hardware optical image stabilization, but there has been nothing solid to indicate one way or another whether this will be the case.
Two separate processors are expected for the Galaxy S5, one for each of the two models which will be released. The 64-bit Exynos 6 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 have been mooted as the choices for the two Galaxy S5 devices. One of the most interesting aspects of the Galaxy S5 is that it will be the first mainstream mobile which will feature a so-called 2K screen; capable of images with higher clarity than full 1080p HD. Few members of the public have had the opportunity to witness 2K images yet, so it will be intriguing to see whether they perceive this to make a significant difference to the Galaxy’s performance, or if it’s considered to be a bit of a storm in a teacup.
Samsung has already signaled its intention this year to overtake Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in the smartphone market and establish the Galaxy S5 as the world’s most popular smartphone. This will be no small undertaking, as Apple has an incredibly loyal fanbase and is certain to pull out all the stops with the iPhone 6. But analysts believe that the rapidly growing smartphone market in East Asia could pay dividends for Samsung, and that it is quite plausible that the Galaxy S5 could outsell the iPhone 6.
Although the release date for the Galaxy S5 has not yet been set in stone, we will only need to wait ten days to find out precisely when this can be expected, as Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) will reveal this at a special engagement at the World Mobile Congress during its opening day. The majority of analysts believe that the Galaxy S5 will probably hit the shops in early April.
