This is just ahead of today’s expected unveiling at Mobile World Congress 2014.

Intel lead discusses collaboration with Samsung

This tidbit comes straight out of the mouth of Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)’s mobile chip executive Hermann Eul. As an effort to keep the rest of the details hidden until the big unveiling, he declined to share more details regarding the matter.

Last year, the South Korean tech giant added Intel’s wireless chip to phones featuring Exynos applications processor while other models featured Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. It appears that Samsung will do the same with this year’s model.

Samsung to unveil Galaxy S5 today

CNET’S Shara Tibken added, “Samsung will unveil its newest flagship phone during an event Monday at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Galaxy S5 is one of the most anticipated smartphones of the year, and the number of rumors flooding the market is on par with an Apple launch. Already, Samsung has introduced two new smartwatches that run on the Tizen operating system instead of Android. CNET will bring you full coverage from the event later Monday.”

For the longest time, Intel primarily provided chips for both desktop computers and laptops. However, the growing mobile industry is driving the chipmaker to change direction or at least start providing their chips to mobile phone makers. The company’s biggest rivals like Qualcomm and Samsung have made it harder for Intel to really break out into the mobile gadget industry. Samsung’s utilization for Intel chips provide the break the Santa Clara-based company needs. As Eul elaborated, It helps that the industry needs a viable alternative to Qualcomm and interest in LTE is strong.
