Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has faced privacy concerns again and again, sometimes over the same issue multiple times. Users of the social network have been pushing for a setting to make their album cover photos private instead of public, but so far, there’s been no luck.
Facebook users push for more control
The issue relates to the cover photos of albums. The albums themselves can be made private, but the cover photos are public. It is indeed worth questioning why it isn’t possible to make the cover photos private if the albums themselves are private. It seems somewhat counterintuitive.
Facebook users have posted multiple questions asking Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) to make their cover photos private on the social network’s community pages (like this one), but the social network doesn’t appear to have anything to say on the matter. Many users say they’ll leave Facebook if the company doesn’t make this change, but management is either calling their bluff or just blatantly isn’t worried about losing a few users.
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), it’s your move. Will you take the pleas of the masses into consideration and allow cover photos to be made private?
Facebook on WhatsApp privacy
Recently Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) said it would acquire the popular messaging app WhatsApp, which some have said (according to Digital Trends) is one of the most privacy-conscious technology companies out there. So after Facebook fully acquires it, what’s going to happen to that view and to WhatsApp’s privacy policies?
Last month, CEO Mark Zuckerberg praised SnapChat, another popular messaging app, as a “privacy phenomenon.” So if other social networks are becoming increasingly private, will Facebook follow suit? Or will it ravage WhatsApp’s privacy settings, just as it has the settings on its own site? At this point, it is just too early to tell. We probably won’t start seeing any of the sneaking privacy policy changes Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is known for making until sometime—maybe even months—after the acquisition is complete.
