DDD Group Plc (LON:DDD) (OTCMKTS:DDDGF) in partnership with InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDCC) will demonstrate the next generation HD and UHD video processing technologies during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) at Barcelona, Spain on Monday, February 24.
DDD Group and InterDigital: Bandwidth savings
The two companies collaborated in developing debt-based video pre-processing solutions that deliver bandwidth savings of more than 20% when consumers stream 2D video to Smart TVs, smartphones, and tablets.
DDD Group Plc (LON:DDD) (OTCMKTS:DDDGF) explained that pre-processing 2D video before it is encoded and streamed to the viewer will save more than 20% of the bitrate required to deliver the similar unprocessed video.
The company emphasized that the improvement in the performance allows the delivery of 1080 HD versions of content where conventional encoding techniques reduces the quality of the picture to 720 HD resolution based on available bandwidth.
Positive response
DDD Group Plc (LON:DDD) (OTCMKTS:DDDGF) said the bitrate savings allows streaming video service providers to reduce their bandwidth costs without compromising the quality of the pictures in their existing service.
The presentation of the next generation HD and UHD video processing technologies received favorable response from PC and mobile device companies seeking to improve picture quality during the recently concluded International CES in Las Vegas.

3D Systems acquires Digital PlaySpace
In a separate report, 3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD)) announced its acquisition of Digital PlaySpace, a game design and development platform that combines 3D printed dollhouse items and toys with social sharing features for kids.
3D Systems also printed its first hybrid robotic exoskeleton enabling a disabled woman to “walk tall.”
