There have been numerous reports that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) would give their highly-anticipated iPhone 6 a sapphire screen, but recent rumors indicate the tech giant will use sapphire on their iWatch instead.
Apple to fit sapphire screens on iWatch?
GforGames reports on Chinese media who cite Taiwan supply chain insiders, who claim Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will easily fit sapphire screens on their iWatch. Although there is still possibility Apple could fit these screens on their iPhones, it would increase the cost in a significant way.
GforGames elaborated further, “Fortunately though, the same sources also say that Apple will manage to fit sapphire screens on the rumored iWatch. The smartwatch is said to feature a 2 inch panel, and evidently, the production costs would be much lower. As always, it’s difficult know for sure (or to accurately predict) what will happen in the second half of the year, and the next iPhone is still quite a mystery, despite the numerous rumors surrounding it. Whether or not we’ll get to see a sapphire screen on the iPhone 6 remains to be seen, but chances are slim.”

Last month, a report from Taiwanese media claimed Foxconn Technology Co., Ltd. (TPE:2354) (OTCMKTS:FXCOF) successfully completed their iPhone with sapphire prototype testing. Around the same time, the company’s existing suppliers were spotted as they made serious investments for tools and equipment. Afterward, it was revealed Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) had a large number of inspection equipment and sapphire furnaces delivered to its sapphire manufacturing plant in Arizona. A few analysts predict the plant might have enough room to manufacture sapphire display pieces for up to 200 million handsets a year.
It looks like 2014 will be another huge year for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), especially if they release the iWatch this year. There is a lot of anticipation for the Cupertino tech giant to release their smartwatch, especially since Apple will have a late entrance into the smartwatch market.
