3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD) announced Wednesday that it has acquired Digital PlaySpace. The Rock Hill-based company didn’t disclose financial terms of the deal. It’s the eighth acquisition by 3D Systems since August 2013. Digital PlaySpace is a game design and development platform which combines 3D printed dollhouse items and toys with social sharing features for kids.

DPS founder to join Cubify platform of 3D Systems

The Digital PlaySpace (DPS) platform depends on its website DigitalDollhouse.com and Facebook app Dreamhouse Designer. It allows users to create toys like playhouses, which can then be printed using 3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD)’s cloud services or Cube 3D Printer. Parents and children both use DPS’ hosting and publishing platforms.

3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD) said in a statement that Digital PlaySpace’s design, gaming and community sharing capabilities offer wonderful 3D create-and-make experiences. DPS was founded by Jesyca Durchin, who has worked with Mattel on 3D animated films. She has helped a number of companies, including Disney Theme Parks, create different films, games and rides.

Cathy Lewis, chief marketing officer of 3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD), said that Jesyca Durchin will join the company’s Cubify platform, helping millions of users connect with their friends, family and favorite brands in more creative ways. Durchin said DPS’ vision is to offer 3D PlaySpace for everyone. She said PlaySpace offers fun and immersiveness, which increases loyalty and brand recall. That helps retailers and brands connect with customers in a creative way.

3D Systems’ eight acquisitions

It’s 3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD)’s eighth acquisition since August and fifth since December 2013. On January 3, the company purchased 3D modeling provider Gentle Giant Studios. In late December, it purchased two more companies: Village Plastics Co., which makes 3-D printing filament, and ceramics printer Figulo Corporation. Other acquisitions since August include CRDM, TeamPlatform and Sugar Labs.

3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD) shares jumped 4.89% to $79.75 at 1:13 PM EST On Thursday.
