Updated on

Sony recently introduced a new phone at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The new phone is called Sony Xperia Z1S and it’s waterproof. This phone can be submerged into water as deep as 4.5 feet for up to half an hour. This is an improvement from the Xperia Z which could go as deep as 3 feet.

Highlights for the Xperia Z1S

This new phone features a camera with a resolution of 20.7 megapixels. It also offers a wide variety of camera applications that allow you to get more information about a specific item (like a landmark or book), snap up to 61 photos in just two seconds then select the one you prefer, and broadcast live events through social media.

The Xperia Z1S phone is also a dream for gamers thanks to the companion application for Sony’s PlayStation. This app will allow users to purchase games for automatic downloads. It also allows users to watch footage of some of their friends’ game play.

Phone to appeal to gamers

ABC News added, “With a companion app for Sony’s PlayStation game console, players will be able to buy new games for automatic download and watch footage of their friends’ game play. The Z1s is based on Sony’s Xperia Z1 phone, whose distribution has been largely limited to overseas markets. Both models along with last summer’s Z have screens measuring 5 inches diagonally.”

The new Xperia Z1S will be exclusive to T-Mobile. The phone will retail for just $528 but can be paid through monthly installments. Customers can preorder the phone online on January 13th, the phone will be available in store starting January 22nd.

There is speculation that this phone will appeal to T-Mobile younger customers, especially with the PlayStation companion application. Time will tell if this new phone sells.
