Samsung Galaxy S5 Launch Predicted Mid-March In London

Updated on

The Galaxy S5 continues to be the focus of rumors, and this latest one indicates that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) will launch it at an event in London in the middle of March. The timing comes from journalist Flavio, who tweeted that a “reliable source” had given him these details. Both tidbits from this report seem pretty safe, as Samsung already said it plans to launch the Galaxy S5 no later than April and the Korean company held other major launch events in London just last year.

Galaxy S5 to include iris scanner?

At the same time the Samsung executive said they plan to launch the Galaxy S5 by March or April, he also confirmed that they were working on an iris scanner. However, he was unable to say whether they would have that scanner ready in time to be included in the Galaxy S5. At this point, no smartphone maker has included an iris scanner for the purpose of unlocking the phone, so Samsung and other companies are locked in a race to see which one can do it first.

He did say though, that they would be updating their Galaxy Gear smart watch along with the Galaxy S5. The smart watch launched late last year and so far, has been pretty unpopular. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) is hoping that this refresh, which comes just month after the original watch launched, is more popular than that first model.

Galaxy S5 to launch with another handset?

We’ve also heard recently that Samsung will launch a premium smartphone—possibly called the Galaxy F—along with the Galaxy S5 in a few months. That model has been said to have a metal back and possibly slightly better specs.

Also coming this year is probably the Galaxy Note 4, which some have said could even have a three-sided flexible display. The next Note, however, probably won’t be out until later this year, if Samsung follows the same release pattern as previous years.
