Although Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) still hasn’t officially announced the Lumia 929, also known as the Lumia Icon, the handset keeps showing up around the Web. It appeared this week on Chinese online marketplace TaoBao. Now it has shown up on Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ)’s official website, according to Gigaom, which also reports that it was on a Verizon test size recently as well.
Nokia Lumia 929 specs revealed—again
Verizon’s page also gave the specs for Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V)’s latest handset, saying that it has a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080. It also sports a 20-megapixel PureView camera and a metal chassis. Polycarbonate and Gorilla Glass 3 are also used in the high-end handset, which is essentially an upgrade for the Lumia 928, which has been offered on Verizon’s network for some time.
The Lumia Icon / 929 also reportedly features a 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 chip, 2 GB of memory and 32 GB of internal storage.
Nokia continues to launch new devices
The deal between Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is expected to close in the current quarter, but Nokia continues to launch device after device. The fact that the Finnish handset maker hasn’t officially unveiled the Lumia Icon or 929 is a bit strange though, particularly since it has shown up on Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ)’s actual website.
When I checked later, however, the handset did not appear to be on Verizon’s site. The Nokia 928 was still there though, and it’s listed as being free with a two-year contract. The link provided by Gigaom, which was supposed to go to the Nokia Lumia Icon page, now goes to a more generic page highlighting some of the smartphones which are available on Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ)’s website.
So will Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) (BIT:NOK1V) (HEL:NOK1V) do the official unveiling anytime soon? It’s hard to guess, but you could definitely say that this handset is the worst-kept secret of the tech industry.
