LG will upgrade a new set of smart television sets this year with Palm software. Last year, HP sold WebOS to LG in efforts to revive WebOS, which was created by Palm and sold to HP after disappointing sales in 2011.
LG wants to lead the television industry
Despite the lack of interest users have for WebOS on mobile devices, LG hopes to use it on over 70% of their smart televisions. The company is also hoping other companies will write applications specifically for the new TVs.
Samsung (one of the main rivals for LG) wants to launch a television that would be the center for controlling home appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and lighting. Although LG has yet to say which devices would be compatible with, there is speculation it could be home appliances and other gadgets.
According to NDTV Gadgets, LG’s new televisions will simplify the connection process with a virtual guide. It was explained, “During set-up, Bean Bird, an animated character will appear which will help users through various options. The second feature dubbed simple discovery will feature voice and gesture-based controls for users, while the simple switching feature will offer users various apps to choose from. As per the report, the simple switching feature would offer access to apps like Amazon Instant Video, CinemaNow, Hulu Plus, Netflix, Twitter, MLB.tv and Vudu.”
LG unveils new wristband
LG also unveiled their Life Band Touch fitness wristband at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show. This band syncs with iOS and Android thanks to Bluetooth 4.0. There is no word on whether the wristband will be compatible with smartphones, tablet computers, or both. The details and availability date are also unknown. We do know this watch will feature an OLED touch display, this can be used as a watch or display for notifications from a connected device.
