Gmail Goes Down [UPDATE: UP Now]

Updated on

UPDATE: No, the world hasn’t ended. Gmail appears to be back up gain.  So don’t panic.

Gmail is down. Yes, it’s everyone. Not just you. So don’t gasp in horror and wonder what you’re going to do now. Google’s probably on it.

But anyway, those who attempt to access Gmail receive the following error message:

“We’re sorry, but your Gmail account is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience and suggest trying again in a few minutes.”

Then it tells users to check the Apps Status Dashboard to find out when it comes back up again. A check of the Apps Status Dashboard initially didn’t show any problems with any of Google’s services, including Gmail, although after refreshing a couple of times, it did show a service disruption.

Other sites down too

And Gmail isn’t the only Google service which appears to be down at the moment. Google Hangouts appears to be down as well for some, and connections to YouTube and Google Docs look to be going pretty slowly.

The site DownRightNow does show a likely service disruption with Gmail right now. Interestingly enough, it also shows that within the last 24 hours, several other big sites showed possible service trouble, including Twitter, Facebook, Windows Live Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail. Also Live Journal is listed as currently experiencing possible service trouble.
