How To Easily Increase The Range Of WiFi At Your Home

Wifi routers are very common these days as smartphones, tablets, laptops and other devices can all connect to wifi networks. However, many routers do not give you good coverage into every corner of your home. Walls, floors and other obstacles can block the signal sent by the Wifi router. Check out the suggestions below to increase the range of your Wifi router if you’re getting poor or no Wifi coverage in some of the rooms in your home.

Simple tips to increase Wifi range at home

Tip #1: Place your wireless router in a central place in your home so that you’ll get the same signal strength all over. Don’t place it in a room where the door is always closed, as a closed door will typically block the signal.

Tip #2: Place your router away from other wireless equipment like cordless phones and the like, which usually also operate using radio signals. These devices can cause signal interference and lead to signal strength loss. Place the router away from such equipment to avoid signal interference.

Tip #3: Sometimes using a high gain antenna also helps. Some routers come equipped with a removable antenna, which means that the antenna can be replaced with a new high gain antenna which will transmit signal only in one direction, instead of the built-in antenna which emits signal in all directions. However, you’ll need to ensure that you place it in the correct direction to get the maximum benefit out of it.

Using an extender to increase Wifi range

Last but not least, you can install a Wifi range extender, also known as wireless repeater, in your home. A wireless repeater is a device that extends the range of your Wifi signal. It picks up your wireless signal just like your smartphone or tablet, and then rebroadcasts the signal.

You’ll need to place the wireless repeater where it will receive a strong signal from your original router. The setup process is usually simple — just plug it into any wall socket, turn it on and you’re good to go. You will need to go through the short configuration process if you’re doing this for the first time. As an example, you can search for Netgear WN3000RP on ecommerce sites. However, note that an extender can cost more than than a wireless router itself.
