Wikipedia is an amazing source of information that can keep us busy for hours. This free encyclopedia is what even the experts refer to when they’re stuck on anything. Usually you would just go to this site and search for the topic that you want to read online, but it is not always possible to read Wikipedia articles online, as many of us are not always connected to the Internet.
For example; you might not have Internet at your Grandma’s place, on subways, or during flights, and in such a case, how would you read Wikipedia? The good part is that Wikipedia allows users to create ebooks which you can then read on any mobile device or even without an Internet connection. In this small guide, let’s learn how to easily create an ebook using Wikipedia, and then download it to your computer for offline use.
How to create ebook from Wikipedia
To create an ebook from Wikipedia articles, visit the article that you want to include in the ebook and then from the left sidebar, click on Print/export link.
Click on Create a book link which will open the Book creator page.
Click on the ‘Start book creator’ button.
On the next page, you’ll be able to see the book creator box at the top of every page you visit. To add the current page to your ebook, click on Add this page to your book link.
Once you add the page, the link will change to Remove this page from your book. Click on it if you want to remove it. To add more pages or articles, open the page and click on the same link. Yet another way to add more articles to your ebook is by hovering your mouse over a link, which will display a small popup box saying Add linked wiki page to your book. Click on it to add this Wikipedia article to your ebook.
You can also click on Suggest pages from book creator box to get more suggestions on the current topic. On the suggestions page, click on the green + button to add those articles to your ebook.
Once you’ve finished adding all articles to your ebook, click on “Show book” from Book creator box at the top.
The Manage your book page will appear from where you can add a title and subtitle to your book, sort articles by dragging and dropping, remove articles, preview your book or download it to your computer.
Basically, from this page, you’ll be creating your ebook. Don’t forget to give a title to your book, arrange or remove pages to your liking, and then once you’re ready, select your desired format (from PDF, OpenDocument, OpenZIM or EPUB) and click on the Download button.
Wikipedia will now generate your ebook, and it will show progress on the next page. Once your ebook is ready, you’ll see that the page will automatically refresh.
Go ahead and click on the “Download the file” link to download the ebook to your computer. Once downloaded, you can open the ebook or transfer it to your mobile device and read it during your leisure time.
