Galaxy S5 Display Enters Mass Production [REPORT]

Samsung has started the mass production of the 5.25 inch QHD AMOLED display set for the soon-to-be launched Galaxy S5, says a report from Sam Mobile citing a Korean publication.

Samsung Galaxy S5 may have a new pixel feature

A report from NDTV claims that the Korean firm would feature a diamond pixel arrangement in the Galaxy similar to that in the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. The report from Sam Mobile also noted that it includes “green pixels interleaved with alternating red and blue pixels, but with each red and blue pixel shaped like a diamond for increased sharpness and pixel density.” With the new pixel feature, the Galaxy S5 would provide more sharpness and pixel density in the graphics.  Screen resolution of the Galaxy S5 would be 1440×2560 pixels with a pixel density set at 56oppi, says the report.

A report from ZDNet Korea suggested that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) is looking to launch a phone with a quad HD (2,560 x 1,440) display and an iris scanner.

Curved screen may not affect popularity

Another report from The Korean Herald suggests that the upcoming models in 2014 would not have curved display due to issues in producing enough of the screens. Neither the Samsung Galaxy S5 nor iPhone 6 would have curved display as one could see in the Samsung Galaxy Round and LG Flex unveiled this year.  Industry analysts stated that both Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) and LG are already struggling with the production of enough curved screens for their current models.

“The current capacity for flexible panels is not high enough for the Galaxy S5, which will be rolled out early next year,” Kim Jong-hyun, an analyst at Seoul-based Eugene Investment & Securities, told The Herald.

The analyst added that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930) might unveil a curved screen phone under the Galaxy brand late next year rather than a flagship model. John Seo, an analyst from Shinhan Investment, said that Apple is also likely to launch a curved screen phone not before 2015.

The absence of a curved screen from the Galaxy S5 and iPhone 6 would not affect the devices and their popularity owing to the string of other impressive features that both phones are expected to have. Digitimes stated that Samsung is testing metal designs for new phones to be launched in 2014.
