Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is ready to say goodbye to 2013 and hello to 2014. On New Year’s Eve, Apple offers a free download for “New Years Eve Mix” which includes a track and video for Avicii’s “Wake Me Up”. This free download is available exclusively through iTunes.
Apple gives away freebies for the holidays
This freebie is part of Apple’s 12 Days of Gifts promotion, which came as an application for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Other free offers that were part of this promo include Martin Scorsese’s “Hugo”, game download “Tiny Thief”, and Lorde’s “No Better”. This holiday-themed offer has been the first time Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) included the United States in the annual tradition. In the previous years, this offers was exclusive to iOS users in the United Kingdom and Canada.
In other Apple-related news, The Inquirer did a report on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s mixed bag of success in 2013. The Cupertino-based tech giant introduced iOS 7 with a new design, the budget friendly iPhone 5C, and more popular iPhone 5S. The company also launched iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 with Retina display. It’s been a huge year for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in terms of releases but not everything came up rosy for the company.
Apple’s iOS redesign sparks interest and criticism
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s redesign of their iOS was met with a lot of criticism. The Inquirer added, “The release, which shows Apple trying to reimagine iOS 7, revealed a design that’s a big departure from previous iterations of iOS. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) threw out textures and replaced them with minimalist, flat designs, replaced previous swiping and tapping animations with sweeping transitions and parallax effects, and reworked its own apps inside and out.”
Fortunately, iOS 7 fared better than expected despite the negative attention surrounding it. The mobile operating system broke a major record: 75% iPhone users installed the new OS within two months of debut.
