Mobile usage is surging at a strong pace. Amazon recently announced over half of their customers shopped using mobile devices this season.

Great holiday season for Amazon

The retail giant’s official press statement was released today. In it was mentioned the impressive 36.8 million items sold on Cyber Monday, the Monday after Thanksgiving. The company added that Amazon shoppers ordered over five toys each second from their mobile phones and tablets from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday at a rate of 426 items per second. Not surprisingly, the holiday shopping weekend was also big for both Kindle Fire tablets and Kindle eReaders.

Beyond Kindle tablets, holiday bestsellers included Samsung high-definition television sets, Chromebooks, Call of Duty: Ghosts for Xbox 360, Grand Theft Auto V for Xbox 360, Baby Einstein toys, winter boots, Rainbow Looms, and more.

Amazon Prime continues to grow

Overall, the holiday season for 2013 was a good one for Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), which shipped to over 185 countries this holiday shopping season. Amazon Prime, which offers free two-day shipping, was so popular this year that the e-tailer had to limit new membership signups at peak periods to prevent service problems for current members.

They benefit from all-you-can-eat free two-day shipping on millions of eligible items and our members have a voracious appetite.”

The press release also states facts about the Kindle and digital media. Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) had thousands of Tech Advisors on call during Christmas. The store beat their Mayday button response time with average response time of 9 seconds. Their digital media collection has grown to over 27 million movies, music, audio books, television shows, books, applications, and games.
