Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA): George Clooney Didn’t Like His Roadster

Updated on

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) shares rallied on Monday, climbing 5% after a rough week last week. The driver in the most recent Model S fire wrote a blog post saying that he felt like the vehicle saved his life when he ran over a metal hitch and the fire started. Like the driver in the first fiery wreck involving a Model S, he can’t wait to get another one.

Clooney derides Tesla’s early car

Not everyone’s thrilled with Tesla’s vehicles, however. Actor George Clooney said in an interview with Tom Junod of Esquire (hat tip Business Insider) that he really hated his Tesla. He complained that he was stuck by the side of the road “a while in that thing” and that he asked why he was “always” stuck on the side of the road.

Maybe he just needs to crash a Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) vehicle to see what it’s really like. But anyway, he’s probably not even talking about the Model S because he said he was about the fifth person in line to get a Tesla, and we know he had a Roadster at one time. He auctioned off the vehicle in 2012, according to Business Insider’s Mamta Badkar. It’s doubtful he would have bought a Model S if he loathed the Roadster so much.

Tesla’s Roadster discontinued

The Roadster was Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s first car, and it didn’t get the rave reviews the Model S has this year. The Roadster was discontinued in 2011, so apparently Tesla didn’t think the car was up to its high standards any longer either. The company said in its regulatory filing at that time that it probably wouldn’t sell the next generation Roadster until after the Model S had been on the market for a year or more.

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) does offer pre-owned Roadsters for sale on its website, however. The company said the vehicle hits 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds and gets 245 miles per charge.
