iPhone 6 Concept With A Wrap-Around Display – Probably Not Real

Updated on

People just keep coming up with new ideas for what the iPhone 6 might look like. Before the iPhone 5S came out, we saw some concepts for a phone with a wrap-around display. Now that idea is rearing its ugly head again, although I would only call this idea ugly because it is probably very far from reality in terms of what the real iPhone 6 will look like. The concept itself is really quite beautiful.

New iPhone 6 concept with a screen that bends 90 degrees

This latest iPhone 6 concept came from Concepts iPhone and was published in Tuaw. This YouTube user has created so many other iPhone 6 concept over the last year or so that it’s unclear whether this idea is just a re-rack of some of the older concepts. Part of it seems vaguely familiar to me, but there are elements that seem new.

Anyway, perhaps the coolest feature described in this idea for the iPhone 6 is the screen which bends 90 degrees at the edge. The concept ends up looking a lot like the edge-to-edge display concepts we saw for the iPhone 6 before the 5S came out. This time, however, the creator is playing on recent rumors that the iPhone 6 will have a curved screen.

Adding shortcuts to the iPhone 6

In addition to the flashy ideas for the screen, there are some additional shortcuts on the side of the iPhone 6. There are shortcuts for the built-in flashlight, apps for the camera, music controls, calculator and alarm. The controls appear to be right on the screen, which of course wraps around the edges of the device. Unlike most of the other iPhone 6 ideas which are floating around right now this one doesn’t mention the size of the screen. Most agree that it will have to be at least 4.5 inches in size so that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) can stay relative in an industry where more and more people are wanting a bigger phone.

I would agree with Tuaw on this one. It is highly unlikely this iPhone 6 concept would become a reality at Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). Aside from the practicality of making a screen which looks like this, it’s unclear what benefit there would be from having a screen which just wraps around the edges like this. It isn’t like this is a two-sided phone with a screen that wraps all the way around. I mean sure, it would look cool, but I don’t think Apple would spend the money on a design like this without there being a purpose for it.
