Intel CEO Reveals Plans To Move Faster Towards Mobile

Updated on

Brian Krzanich, chief executive officer of Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) revealed that the company will implement “pragmatic” strategies to shift the company faster towards mobile and other new markets.

A faster shift towards mobile was one of the main objectives of Krzanich when he took the responsibility of leading Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) in May. Back then, he promised that the company’s move towards mobile under his leadership will be swift, emphasizing that the company has the right assets and product capabilities to achieve its objective.

Moves could include laissez-faire stance towards OS, hardware

On Thursday, Krzanich informed analysts that Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) will benefit from practical moves such as bringing its processors into tablets that are more affordable (below $100). According to him, the company would also allow hardware manufacturers to develop personal computers that have no exclusive contracts with a single operating system starting next year.

Krzanich explained that hardware manufacturers will enjoy significant cost reduction under its new strategy because they have the option to choose among the available operating systems such as the Android and Chrome operating system from Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) or the Windows operating system from Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), and ship the product without loading the software. The strategy also enables manufacturers to ship products integrated with two operating systems, and allows users to switch anytime they want.

Intel to open its manufacturing doors

He added that Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) will allow any company to use its advanced manufacturing services. “We will open the foundry to any company able to utilize our leading-edge silicon,” said Krzanich. Under the leadership of former CEO Paul Otellini, the company prohibited direct competitors to use the company’s advanced manufacturing technology.

Furthermore, Krzanich projected that the share of Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) in the tablet market will improve significant next year given the fact that the company is delivering chips for cheaper products that offer better performance and longer battery life. He estimated that Intel’s shipment of chips will be approximately 40 million next year. Krzanich also stated that the company will concentrate on generating sales in the smartphone market from key suppliers.

Krzanich consumers will soon be able to purchase convertible devices (devices that work like a PC and tablet) with a price tag as low as $299. The company believes that lower priced PCs will increase the demand for its technology.
