Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) will open a new office in Cambridge, Massachusetts, near Boston. The new office will be located in Kendall Park. The social media giant already has offices located in Seattle, Menlo Park, London, and New York.
Boston was an easy choice
Ryan Mack (lead for the Boston site) shared the reasons for the expansion on a blog post, “Our engineering culture is incredibly important to us, so we are very deliberate when it comes to expanding that culture to new locations. But in many ways, Boston was an easy choice. We are thrilled to have found a new home here and hope we can help the community continue to thrive.”
Mack also elaborated on the world-class tech community which includes start-up ecosystems, global corporations, and academic institutions.
Facebook was initially launched in Boston
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) was initially launched in Boston, when the website’s founder Mark Zuckerberg started the company at Harvard. It’s been nearly a decade since it first launched in early 2004, but the website is still growing strong. After the successful start, Zuckerberg quit Harvard to move to Silicon Valley; however, Facebook is still a Boston-based company. The tech giant often recruits students from Harvard and the nearby Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Interestingly enough, Mack left California for Boston three years ago. He also spent much time in coffee shops, Chinatown, and libraries to complete various Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) projects like Photos and Timelines. Mack added that much has changed since he first came to Boston and that he’s excited about meeting new challenges with the company.
