Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) announced that the number of users for its social network site, Google+ increased by 58% over the past few months.

Google+ Users Increased 58 Percent Since May

Currently, Google+ has 300 million monthly active users, up from 190 million in May, according to the search engine giant’s Senior Vice President, Engineering, Vic Gundotra. Last month, Gundotra said that the number of users interacting in the site increased from 390 million to 540 million.

Google+ is increasing at an amazing rate

In addition, Gundotra said that the number of photos uploaded on Google+ is increasing at “an amazing rate.” According to him, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is uploading 1.5 billion photos per week. However, he did not provide specifics as to how many photos are shared on Google+.

On the other hand, Bradley Horowitz, vice president of product management at Google+, emphasized that the number of photos shared on the site is a large one. He explained that the company’s main objective is to build Google+ as important tool to help companies authenticate and identify users across all its services such as Gmail and YouTube.

The goal of Google+ is to make all Google services better

Horowitz said, “The goal of Google+ is to make all Google services better, including ads.” He added that the site creates a social layer that provides a “coherent notion of a person” while using other products from Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG). According to him, “Both missions are harmonized.”

During the event, Gondotra introduced new features for Hangouts as well as improvements on mobile photo and video experience. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) said users will now be able to schedule and promote Hangouts on Air with a dedicated page, and the Hangouts on Android now support SMS and location sharing. The search engine giant also improved the video calling experience with a full screen feature, as well as one to automatically fix and enhance the webcam lighting.

The search engine giant said that the object algorithm detection on photos is now better and it can detect 1,000 different objects, and will be included in searches. Users will be able to adjust the Auto Enhance feature, and the new HDR Scape filter for Snapseed can create HDR effects from a single photo. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) added three options to Auto Awesome. Users can create a movie automatically from their photos and videos with effects and sound.

Google+ the social spine of the company

Early this year, Google CEO Larry Page described Google+ as the social spine of the company. According to him, Google+ connects all the products of the search engine giant.
