Dell Venue Tablets Announced

Updated on

Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) is not going to exist in the future as it has in recent years. A deal from the company’s founder Michael Dell will see the company go private, but for now the company is still plodding along as it has for so long. Today saw the release of a group of new consumer facing products from the company, including tablets for Windows and Android.

Dell Venue Tablets Announced

The Dell Venue 7 and Dell Venue 8 are the new tablets from the company. Both models run on Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android. The seven-inch will retail for $149 with 16 GB of storage, while the 8-inch model will start at a higher price that Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) did not disclose. The company also launched the Venue 11, an 11-inch Windows RT powered tablet.

New Dell tablets

The launch of the Dell Venue 7, Venue 8 and Venue 11 was accompanied by the launch of new XPS laptops. The XPS range are high-powered laptops for gaming and other performance heavy tasks. The company released a new Dell XPS 15, alongside new Dell XPS 11, 12 and 13 ultrabooks.

Both of the Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) tablet offerings have specs comparable to other low priced Android tablets, but that won’t do much to save the company’s consumer side. Today’s releases may be the last from the company in some time.

Dell disappearance

Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) failed to react to the changes in the technology market when Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) released the iPhone and the iPad and was left bearing the brunt of a dying business. The privatization of the company is supposed to give it time to transform itself into a functioning part of the market once again.

That means that Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) is likely to tone down its production of consumer facing tablets and laptops. The proposed future of the company envisions it as a thriving member of the enterprise market. Michael Dell is hoping the company he founded can continue to bring in high margins when dealing with businesses after the commoditization of the consumer PC market almost killed the company.

Whether or not that plan works, these may be the last big releases from Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) for some time. The company’s enterprise offerings will be more tailored to that market than today’s releases, and the company will likely move into a service based model. The days of the omnipresent Dell may be coming to an end.
