Consumer Sentiment Declines for Third Straight Month

Updated on

Reuters reports that the University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment index was a reading of 75.2 in October. This is the preliminary reading for the month, and is a decrease from September’s final reading of 77.5.

The decrease is the third consecutive monthly decline in the index and was caused at least in part by the U.S. federal government shutdown. Consumer sentiment has not been this low since January.
