U.K. household debt as a percentage of income has exploded and is still significantly higher than in the U.S., @edconwaysky points out. It has decreased over the last several years but remains well above its long-run average.

The average amount of U.K household debt has expanded in all age brackets, but most noticeably for those in their 20?s and 30?s. In fact, the amount of household debt more than doubled for both of those age groups between 1995 and 2005.
