Towerstream Soars +8.43%, Making Soros’ Bad Week a Bit Better

Today’s Daily Gainers are Towerstream Corporation (NASDAQ:TWER), Magnum Hunter Resources Corp (NYSE:MHR) and MakeMyTrip Limited (NASDAQ:MMYT) and Daily Losers are J.C. Penney Company, Inc. (NYSE:JCP), United Continental Holdings Inc (NYSE:UAL) and DexCom, Inc. (NASDAQ:DXCM).

Towerstream Corporation (NASDAQ:TWER) boasts the best daily performance, having increased +8.43% ($2.83). The company, which provides fixed wireless broadband services to commercial customers in the United States, is part of the George Soros’ portfolio. The billionaire holds 197,000 shares (0.01%of his fund), acquired at an average price of $2.37.

Another firm that had a great day was Magnum Hunter Resources Corp (NYSE:MHR), which shot up +7.84%, reaching $6.33. Soros is the only investor tracked by iBillionaire with a position in MHR. As of June, Soros has held 250,000  MHR shares (0.01% of his fund), purchased last quarter at an average price of $3.27.

Finally, MakeMyTrip Limited (NASDAQ:MMYT), an online travel company, is the third firm to make our list of daily gainers. MMYT is up +5.24% ($15.25), benefiting billionaire Chase Coleman and Feroz Dewan, who have held more than seven million shares in the company for the last three years. The Tiger Management manager bought four million shares in 2010, two million in June 2011, and one million in the third quarter of 2011.

Daily Losers

Retailer J.C. Penney, Inc. (NYSE:JCP) is our biggest loser of the day, its value continuing to shrink. Today, JCP’s value dipped -13.77% ($8.98), following the announcement that it will end the fiscal year with about $1.3 billion in liquidity (in August, the company predicted more than $1.5 billion). George Soros owns 19.9 million J.C. Penney shares, representing 3.70% of his portfolio. The stockholder paid $16.66 per share when he bought all of his assets last quarter.

Chicago-based airline United Continental Holdings Inc (NYSE:UAL) makes our our daily loser list today after its share’s price dropped -9.28% ($30.91). According to Bloomberg, the fall is the consequence of a report predicting a decrease in Q3 revenues. David Tepper holds 7.7 million shares in UAL (3.50% of his fund), bought at an average price of $18.35. George Soros’ portfolio was also hit by news. The billionaire holds more than three million shares, which were acquired at an average price of $27.04.

DexCom, Inc. (NASDAQ:DXCM), a medical device company, is our last loser today. Though  the company got U.S. regulatory approval for the first artificial pancreas today, its share price decreased. DXCM performed -6.71%, hitting $27.23. George Soros was once again affected by this change. The investor holds 100,000 shares (0.02% of his portfolio), purchased at an average price of $15.32.
